(PFC)

A series of chemical compounds of carbon and fluorine that are significant greenhouse gases. The most important are perfluoromethane (CF4) and perfluoroethane (C2F6), with lifetimes of 50 000 and 10 000 years, respectively. Their use is being phased out under the terms of the Kyoto Protocol.
