Inflammation of the tissue flap (operculum) covering the crown of a partially erupted tooth, most commonly the third mandibular molar. Treatment consists of irrigation under the tissue flap with chlorhexidine and removal of any traumatizing, non-functional opposing teeth, possibly followed by surgical removal of the tissue flap. Antibiotic therapy may be indicated if there is trismus or a raised temperature.
