Quick Reference

A hormonally regulated phosphoprotein that coats lipid storage droplets in adipocytes. There are two alternatively spliced forms, perilipin-A (517 aa) and -B (422 aa). Perilipin is the major protein kinase A (PKA) substrate in adipocytes and phosphorylation is apparently essential for the translocation of hormone-sensitive lipase from the cytosol to the lipid droplet in stimulated lipolysis.
