Users of a networked system are granted a number of facilities by the system administrator when they are first registered with the system. These are known as permissions. There are a variety of permissions that can be provided, ranging from which computers in the network can be used to the files that a user is allowed to access. The system administrator is given the most comprehensive set of permissions.
