Quick Reference

A small muscle, not always present, in the anterior compartment of the lower leg. It is usually fused with and continuous with the distal part of the extensor digitorum longus. It has its origin on the distal anterior surface of the fibula and the interosseus membrane, and its insertion on the dorsal surface of the first metatarsal. Its primary actions are dorsiflexion and eversion.
