heretic. He rejected infant Baptism, the Mass, church buildings, prayers for the dead, the veneration of the Cross, as well as large parts of the Bible and the authority of the Church. He gained a considerable following. His teaching was frequently condemned and he was thrown into the flames at St-Gilles, near Nîmes, by the people.
