Quick Reference

A cytoskeletal protein (phakosin, beaded filament structural protein 2, 415 aa), found in eye lens, that coassembles with filensin in a 3:1 ratio to form beaded-chain intermediate filaments. Phakinin has very strong sequence homology with cytokeratins but only forms filaments in association with filensin. Mutations are associated with autosomal dominant juvenile-onset cataract.
