A genus of small, xerophytic (see xerophyte) trees and shrubs which have simple, usually alternate leaves, without stipules. The flowers are bisexual with a united corolla, and with twice as many stamens as corolla lobes. The seeds contain copious endosperm. There are 40 species, only 1 of which is found outside Australia, and then only in New Zealand.
