Coastal territory north of Israel with Tyre and Sidon as the principal cities. There were commercial links with Israel (2 Sam. 5: 11; 1 Kgs. 9: 26 f.) and these led to the infiltration of Phoenician Baal worship (1 Kgs. 18: 19; Isa. 65: 11; Jer. 32: 35). Phoenician art and writing were highly developed.
