Quick Reference

Intermediates in glycolysis (2-phosphoglycerate and 3-phosphoglycerate) and, in the case of 3-phosphoglycerate, the precursor for synthesis of phosphatidic acid and diacylglycerol. Phosphoglycerate kinase (PGK, EC 2.7.2.3, 417 aa) is an X-linked enzyme that catalyses the phosphorylation of 3-phospho-d-glycerate to 3-phosphohydroxypyruvate in glycolysis. The phosphoglycerate mutase (EC 2.7.5.3, 254 aa) family is widely distributed with tissue-specific isoforms; deficiency of the muscle form leads to myopathy similar to that caused by deficiency in phosphofructokinase.
