A colourless, odourless, inorganic mineral acid (H3PO4). It is used in dentistry as an aqueous solution forming the liquid component of zinc phosphate cement and as an etching liquid or gel when applied to dentine or enamel to remove calcium and provide a micro-mechanical bonding surface for restorative or preventive resin restorations.
