Quick Reference

(mpv) The brightness of a star measured on a panchromatic (yellow-sensitive) photographic plate exposed through a yellow filter to mimic the wavelength response of the eye. Such magnitudes are similar to photoelectric V magnitudes, although not so accurate. The term is now obsolete; many astronomers are content to use the technique and call the resulting magnitude V.
