A questionnaire developed by the British Columbia Ministry of Health and the Multidisciplinary Board on Exercise. The questionnaire requires a yes/no response to a series of questions concerning the health risks of the subject, such as ‘Are you over 60 years of age?’, and ‘Do you suffer from chest pains?’ It is designed for self-screening by anyone who is planning to start an exercise programme that includes moderate to strenuous activities, such as aerobics, jogging, cycling, power walking, and swimming. Trials of the questionnaire in Canada show that it detects at least half of those in whom an increase in physical activity would cause an increase in the risk of a heart disorder.
