Ballet in one act with choreography and libretto by Ashton, music by Bax, and designs by Beaton. Premiered 28 Feb. 1952 by New York City Ballet at City Center in New York, with Diana Adams, Moncion, and d'Amboise. Set in the Cornish castle of Tintagel in 1916 the ballet tells the story of Tristan and Isolde through the experience of a group of tourists who visit the castle and among its ancient stones find themselves swept up in the legend of the tragic lovers. The music is Bax's The Garden of Fand.
