A monotypic palm genus. P. filaris is a lofty, pinnate-leaved palm of disturbed forest, with stout, solitary, green, glistening trunks up to 15 m tall. It is dioecious. The inflorescences are axillary, the fruits scaly. It grows very rapidly. It is a splendid, little-known ornamental, which occurs in central Malesia.
