Quick Reference

A transaction in which a bank, or group of banks, undertakes to market an entire new issue of bonds or similar securities. Unlike a bought deal, the borrower is not guaranteed that the new issue will be successful. Such transactions are favoured by the smaller financial institutions, such as merchant banks, who do not have large marketing departments.
