Quick Reference

Time spent in a place of work, normally unpaid, as part of an educational or training experience. Students or trainees whose course of study requires them to spend some time on work experience will either have a placement organized for them by their school, college, or university, or be expected to organize their own. This also applies to student teachers, all of whom must spend some time on placement in schools or colleges as part of their initial teacher training. In departments where large numbers of their students undertake work experience as part of their studies, there may be a designated member of staff responsible for coordinating and monitoring placements, sometimes known as a placement tutor or placement coordinator.
