English statistician. Plackett was a co-author of the 1946 paper that introduced Plackett and Burman designs (see factorial experiment). Formerly a lecturer at U Liverpool, in 1962 Plackett was appointed Professor of Statistics at U Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He was awarded the Guy Medal in Bronze of the RSS in 1968, gaining the Guy Medal in Silver in 1973, and in Gold in 1987 (one of only two individuals to have the full set—the other is Armitage).
