Quick Reference

The process by which a nonconjugative plasmid is transferred from a donor to a recipient cell via the effective contact function provided by a conjugative plasmid. In E. coli, for example, the ColE 1 plasmid does not have genes for the establishment of effective contact, but an F plasmid in the same cell is conjugative and can provide this function.
