Quick Reference

A family of actin-bundling and crosslinking proteins differentially expressed in normal and malignant cell. I-plastin (intestinal-plastin; plastin-1; fimbrin; 68 kDa) is also found in intestinal microvilli. Fimbrin was originally identified in the microvilli of avian epithelial brush border and the plastins are the human homologues. L-plastin (lymphocyte cytosolic protein-1; plastin-2; p65) is expressed in leucocytes, transformed fibroblasts, and various tumour cell lines. T-plastin (plastin 3), which is similar to L-plastin, is expressed in normal cells of solid tissues and in transformed fibroblasts.
