French dancer. From 1971 she studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, graduating in 1975 with first prize. She then furthered her studies (1975–6) in the ‘pre ballet corps’ at the Paris Opera Ballet, before joining the company fully in 1976. Promoted to étoile in 1981. An outstanding ballerina, with beautiful feet and high extensions, she was the epitome of pure French classicism. As well as dancing the classical ballerina repertory she also danced in many modern works, creating roles in Childs's Premier orage (1984), Nureyev's Swan Lake (1984), van Dantzig's Sans armes citoyens! (1987), Neumeier's Magnificat (1987) and Sylvia (1997), and Armitage's Les Anges ternis (1987). She has appeared as a guest with many companies including the Royal Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet. She appeared in the 1987 BBC Television series Ballerina and in the 1982 French film Le Spectre de la danse. She retired from the Paris Opera Ballet in 1999, and became director of its school in 2004.
