A pretrial hearing held in all cases sent, committed, or transferred to the Crown Court. At the hearing the defendant will enter a plea and the court will exercise its case management powers. Rules dealing with the management of cases in the Crown Court are set out in Part 3 of the Criminal Procedure Rules and in the Consolidated Criminal Practice Direction. See preliminary hearing.
