US ballet director and artists' agent. After training as an architect, he worked in Hollywood as an artists' agent. In 1937 he went to New York as manager of the newly re-established Mordkin Ballet. Two years later he founded Ballet Theatre with Lucia Chase, a ballerina with the Mordkin company. Their new company, later American Ballet Theatre, gave its first performance in 1940, but Pleasant resigned as director after only its second season, leaving Chase in control.
