Quick Reference

A rare form of supernova remnant in which radiation is being emitted from the central region as well as from the expanding shell; also known as a filled-centre supernova remnant. Plerions tend to be relatively young remnants containing a pulsar, the energy from which makes central regions glow by synchrotron radiation. The best-known example is the Crab Nebula.
