A tool with small pincer-shaped jaws with two handles and a common pivot axle of varying designs, used for holding, bending, stretching, contouring, or cutting. Adams pliers, designed by C. Philip Adams, an English orthodontist, are used primarily for the adjustment of orthodontic appliances. Adams universal pliers have two short tapering rectangular beaks and are used to adjust headgear, facebows, and Adams cribs. Adams spring-forming pliers have a tapering rounded beak and a tapering rectangular beak and are used to adjust orthodontic springs and contour archwires.
