A family of conifers that is largely confined to the southern hemisphere, with a few species extending north across the equator. The seeds are borne inverted, singly or in pairs, not in cones, and each seed has a fleshy aril or a fleshy receptacle and stalk. The pollen grains are winged. There are 12 genera, comprising about 155 species.
