A non‐departmental public body that provides expertise and advice on the best practice in the use of information and communication technology to the police and its other external customers. It also advises on local purchasing, legal, and contractual issues, and can negotiate with suppliers on their behalf. From April 2007 it will become part of the National Policing Improvement Agency, a new body which will support forces to improve the way they work across many areas of policing.
