(Floyd: Susannah). Ten. Elder brother of Susannah, they have lived together since the death of their parents. They are very poor and he is regarded by the village community as an unscrupulous drunkard, to be feared. While he is out hunting, Susannah is raped by the visiting preacher. When Sam learns of this, he takes his gun, finds the preacher carrying out baptisms, and shoots him. Sam then has to flee the village. Created (1955) by Walter James.
