A colourless to pale yellow transparent polymer of acrylic acid which reacts with an ion-leachable glass in the presence of water to form glass ionomer cement. Homopolymers (polymers formed from a single monomer) of polyacrylic acid can form polycarboxylic acid. See also polyalkenoic acid.
