Quick Reference

(invented 1954)

Invented by Professor Giulio Natta in Milan, polypropylene was first produced by Montecatini using the trade name Moplen. It is a very strong and versatile material and capable of being moulded in a variety of ways: injection moulding, blow moulding, thermoforming, and extrusion. It was widely used in furniture from the 1960s, a prime example of which was Robin Day's 1963 polypropylene stacking chair for Hille and Co., the first injection‐moulded chair.
