polypyrimidine tract binding protein 1

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

A nuclear protein (PTBP1, heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein type I, hnRNP I, 531 aa) that binds pre-mRNAs and is considered to have a role in pre-mRNA splicing. PTBP2 is neuron-specific and the level of PTBP2 is controlled by a miRNA (microRNA124A1) that targets PTBP1 and leads to its degradation; this switches the cell to a neuron-specific pattern of alternative splicing. IMP1 competes with PTBP1 binding to IGF2 leader 3 mRNA in a Mg2+-dependent manner.
