Quick Reference

A suspended member on a fixed partial denture. It replaces a natural tooth and restores its function and usually its aesthetics. A pontic may reproduce both the aesthetics and morphology of the natural tooth or it may be constructed in the posterior part of the mouth to allow a self-cleansing area between the pontic and the mucosal tissue covering the alveolar ridge (sanitary, hygienic, or self-cleansing pontic).
