(b Uhorška Veš, 1939; d Munich, 1993).

Cz.‐born Austrian soprano. Début Bratislava 1963 (Queen of Night in Die Zauberflöte). Sang Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro) in Vienna 1963, and was engaged by State Opera, where she then sang regularly. Débuts: Salzburg Fest. 1963; CG 1966; NY Met 1967. She was a notable singer of Strauss roles, and of Mozart and Janáček. Also successful concert and recital career.
