2 (Monteverdi: L'incoronazione di Poppea). Sop. Wife of Ottone, she is loved by the Emperor Nero. Is watched over by the god Cupid (Amor) who prevents her husband murdering her. Marries Nero and is declared Empress of Rome. Aria: Signor, deh, non partire (‘Sir, do not go away’); duet (with Nero): Pur ti miro, pur ti godo (‘I gaze on you, I delight in you’).
