A knee ligament attached to the posterior surface of the tibia from which it passes anteriorly, medially, and upward to attach to the anterolateral surface of the medial femoral condyle. The posterior cruciate ligament is very strong and prevents the femur from sliding anteriorly, the tibia from backward displacement, and the knee from overflexion.
