A conserved DNA-binding domain (Pit-Oct-Unc domain, ~150 aa) with a 20-aa homeobox region and a larger POU-specific domain found in various transcription factors. Named after three factors with the domain: Pit-1 which is pituitary-specific; Oct-1 and 2, which bind an octamer sequence; and Unc-86, a neural transcription factor from Caenorhabditis elegans.
