Flavoured, thin slices of potato, deep fried and eaten cold, sometimes as an accompaniment to meals, more commonly as a snack. Called chips in the USA. Reputedly invented by George Crum, a chef in Saratoga Springs, NY (1853), as a mocking response to customers who complained his French fries were too thick.
