A temperate bacteriophage that is widely used in transduction experiments with E. coli. Its genome consists of a linear double-stranded DNA molecule of about 90 kilobases. The molecule is terminally redundant and cyclically permuted. See cyclically permuted sequences, P1 artificial chromosomes (PACs).
