A Pūrva Mīmāṃsaka exegete. His major work is a subcommentary on Śabara's Bhāṣya, itself a commentary on Jaimini's Pūrvamīmāṃsā Sūtra. Other works are the Bṛhati and the Vivaraṇa. Differences between Prabhākara and Kumārila Bhaṭṭa in the interpretation of Śabara's text led to the creation of two Mīmāṃsā subschools, the Prābhākara and the Bhāṭṭa.
