N. [Latin: command]
1 A court document on which a party writes the particulars of a document that he wishes to have prepared or issued. Under Schedule 1 to the Civil Procedure Rules, before a writ of execution is issued in the High Court, a praecipe for its issue signed by the solicitor of the person entitled to execution must be filed at court. In county court procedure, this document is now known as a request.
2 Formerly, a writ requiring the sheriff to command the defendant either to do a certain thing or to show cause why he had not done it.
