(1865–1953), naturalist. Born in Holywood, Co. Down, and educated at QUB. He became a civil engineer and later joined the National Library of Ireland, 1893–1924. His numerous works include The Botanist in Ireland (1934), Some Irish Naturalists (1949), Natural History of Ireland (1950), and Irish Landscape (1953). He is best remembered for his topographical classic The Way that I Went (1947), an Irish travel journal.
