A temperate grassland of northern America, dominated by more or less xeromorphic grasses, which fall into three groups based on stature (tall, mid, and short) with a progressive decrease in rainfall. Various herbaceous broad-leaved annuals and perennials are mixed in with the grasses. See Palouse prairie.
