Quick Reference
Referring to the side of an object, or member of a group of objects, that leads in motion across the sky or across the face of a rotating body. Examples are the preceding component of a double star or a group of sunspots; the preceding side of a planetary feature; the preceding limb of a planet; or the preceding side of a telescopic field of view. The trailing side is said to be following.
