In Scotland the written report of the evidence of witnesses to a crime, taken in order to prepare a case before it comes to trial. These survive from 1812 onwards among the Lord Advocate's records at The National Archives of Scotland, under AD 14 and 15. The records are arranged within years by the name of the accused. A card index, arranged alphabetically, is available up to 1900.
