A term used in Purāṇic cosmology to designate the secondary ‘creation’ and dissolution of the world at the beginning and end of each ‘day of Brahmā’ (or kalpa). It is one of the classical ‘five distinguishing marks’ (pañcalakṣaṇa) of a Purāṇa. See also sarga.
