Quick Reference

Bomb-damage during the 1939–45 war obliged the British Government to establish a programme to build temporary housing. This took the form of single-storey houses, prefabricated in factories, with exteriors clad in aluminium, asbestos sheets, or concrete, and with bathrooms and kitchens (though small) fully equipped.
