(Skt.). Literally ‘localized nirvāṇa’, or that form of nirvāṇa.according to the Mahāyāna.in which a Buddha or other liberated being remains utterly separated or isolated from the world. Such an individual was identified with the post-mortem form of nirvāṇa known as nirupadhiśeṣa-nirvāṇa. According to the Mahāyāna this was the inferior goal advocated by the Hīnayāna.in contrast to the Mahāyāna ideal of ‘unlocalized nirvāṇa’ (apratiṣṭhita-nirvāṇa).
