These prestigious Spanish awards were established in 1987 by the Fundació BCD, the Barcelona Centre de Disseny (Barcelona Design Centre) and the Ministry of Industry & Energy. They were seen as a means of promoting Spanish design excellence and innovation at home and abroad. Designers that have received awards include André Ricard (1987), Enric Satué (1988), Santiago Miranda (1989), Jorge Pensi (1997), Javier Mariscal (1999) and Daniel Gil (2000).
