Quick Reference

(17–19 August 1648)

An encounter in Lancashire that effectively ended the second phase of the English Civil War. On one side were the invading Scottish Engagers under the Duke of Hamilton and on the other was Cromwell's New Model Army. The raw Scottish recruits, although greatly superior in numbers, were no match for the English veterans. Cromwell caught up with them at Preston and dispersed them in a series of running battles.
