priesthood of the Church

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Because Christians are united by baptism and Eucharist to Christ, it is appropriate to regard the Church as itself priestly, (1 Pet. 1: 9–10), and all participate in the mystery of Christ (1 Cor. 10: 16). The priesthood is corporate; in the NT individuals are not called priests.
